Subject: Library status

Dear colleagues,

As of Monday, March 23, we will be restricting access to Simpson Library staff only.  Some library staff will be in the building, working with you to make sure materials are scanned for your classes, and we can pull books for you if you are in the area and want to stop by.  Most of us will be working remotely.  Please know that we are still here for you!  You can call us at 540-654-1125 or email us at umwlibraries@umw.edu.  We are also monitoring our reference chat service, and the reference librarians are doing research consultations by phone, email, Zoom, and Teams.  We can also record a library instruction tutorial for you if needed.

In case you’ve lost it in the flood of emails from me, here’s the link to the library’s guide:  https://libguides.umw.edu/online

We are taking this step to protect the health of the library staff.  We have also heard that students are staying on campus and in town because they want to use the library.  While we appreciate the library love, the safest thing for them to do is to go home if they can, and to follow all the social distancing guidelines.  We will do all we can to help them complete this semester successfully.

This is a tough time for everyone.  My staff and I appreciate the many words of thanks and support you’ve shared.  I am grateful to you all, and to my remarkably dedicated and hard-working staff.  We’ll see you on the other side of this!

Rosemary
