Dr. O’Donnell serves as the chief academic officer of the university and is responsible for oversight of all academic programs, academic planning and budgets and faculty matters. Working with the deans and the faculty, the provost provides leadership of major university initiatives in teaching, research and creative activities and has responsibility for all university educational and academic policies. As chief academic officer, the Provost is responsible for shaping the academic vision of the university and for developing strategies to accomplish that vision.

Dr. Schleef supervises the Office of Institutional Analysis and Effectiveness. The Office provides accurate, relevant and timely access to information used by both internal and external constituencies. The Office collects, analyzes, and disseminates a wide variety of data and information in support of the institutional effectiveness and decision-making processes. The Office is also charged with building competence in assessment and other data-driven improvement strategies aimed at making academic programs and institutional units more effective in fulfilling the mission of the University of Mary Washington.

Dr. Mellinger leads the College of Arts and Sciences, the University’s largest college consisting of over 200 full-time faculty organized into 20 departments. Additionally, the Bachelor of Liberal Studies program and the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program are administratively housed in the College of Arts and Sciences. The Dean is the principal administrator of the College and has responsibility for student and faculty affairs, personnel, faculty recruitment, budget oversight and management, and general administration. Dr. Mellinger articulates and implements an academic vision and mission for the College and actively promotes best practices that support diversity, equity, and inclusion in educational settings.

Dr. Tabak leads the College of Business and its undergraduate and graduate degree programs, which provide a distinctive blend of opportunities for learning, scholarship, and professional development meeting the needs of a diverse student population. She leads faculty who combine academic credentials with business experience and are committed to excellence in scholarship, teaching, and service to the business community. The Dean is the principal administrator of the College with responsibility for student and faculty affairs, personnel, faculty recruitment, budget oversight and management, and general administration. Dr. Tabak and the College embrace the study of business and organizations through a professionally engaged faculty, staff, and alumni base that supports intellectual, social, and personal growth of business students.

Dr. Kelly provides leadership in defining the College of Education’s strategic priorities, for recruiting and retaining a diverse and highly qualified student body and faculty, for oversight of the College’s undergraduate and graduate programs, and for successfully leading the College through its accreditation cycles. He serves as the principal administrator of the College of Education including responsibility for student and faculty affairs, program compliance, personnel management, faculty recruiting, budget oversight, strategic planning, general administration and management, and external relations (especially with local school systems).

Ms. Young leads the Center for Continuing and Professional Studies, which is responsible for expanding the University’s credit and non-credit programs for adults, including new certificate and other professional development courses and programs. She provides an entrepreneurial vision for the university’s programs serving non-traditional students in the large and growing Fredericksburg region. The Executive Director builds partnerships with external constituencies, including community colleges and corporate partners, and also leads efforts to engage and recruit military and veteran students.

Dr. Shorter serves on both the president’s and provost’s leadership teams, providing guidance as UMW continues striving to achieve its goals with respect to diversity, equity and inclusion. She is responsible for developing a university-wide Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council, and continuing the work of building a more inclusive Mary Washington. She also supervises the university’s Office of Disability Resources, Office of Title IX, SafeZone and all diversity education and training programs.

Mr. Harris oversees the University of Mary Washington Museum System, which consists of the Gari Melchers Home and Studio, the James Monroe Museum, and the Papers of James Monroe. These units support and enhance the educational mission of the University. In accordance with their respective missions, the component sites and programs of the Museum System collect, preserve, and interpret artistic, cultural, and historic resources; promote scholarship and the diffusion of knowledge; provide experiential learning opportunities for UMW students; and support economic development through heritage tourism.

Mr. Jones serves as the senior site executive and operations manager for the Dahlgren Center for Education and Research, which is located 30 miles east of the Fredericksburg campus, and proximal to Naval Support Facility – Dahlgren and its extensive defense contractor community. The Director has continuous public contact with senior executive/ command level leaders, including UMW senior leadership, the region’s defense and professional communities, and institutions of higher education as well as local, state and federal government entities. The director’s daily actions demonstrate the university’s commitment to the region while promoting the UMW Dahlgren campus’ unique capabilities, assets, and service quality.

The University Librarian oversees administration of all aspects of library operations, including Simpson Library and Special Collections & University Archives. She leads library staff in fostering a collaborative relationship with students, faculty, staff and administrators to advance the University Libraries’ essential role in teaching, learning, and research on UMW’s three campuses and in its three academic colleges. She also manages the selection, supervision, professional development, and evaluation of library staff.

Ms. O’Reilly provide general administrative support to the Office of the Provost, serves as webmaster for the Provost’s web site, and assists with editing the University Faculty Handbook, Undergraduate and Graduate Catalogs. She also serves as the secretary to the Institutional Review Board.

She oversees records management for the Office of the Provost, coordinates new faculty hiring, prepares faculty personnel action items for the Board of Visitors docket, provides general administrative support, and assists with the preparation of the Undergraduate and Graduate Academic Catalogs.
