Subject: Library Resources

Dear Colleagues,

I hope you are all managing to cope with the strange times in which we now find ourselves.  I know I feel  disconnected from everyone, and I miss the buzz of a busy library during the final weeks of the semester.  Please remind your students that we are still here to help them as they finish out their course work.  The reference and instruction librarians are available by chat, email, and teleconferencing for research consultations.  The access services staff are continuing to scan print materials for students and faculty.  As I have said a number of times, the building is closed, but the Library is still open!

Many of our vendors have extended access to their resources.  We are trying to list these on our guide:  https://libguides.umw.edu/online.  VIVA also has collected a guide to vendor-provided resources:  http://vivalib.org/va/covid19.   Ancestry.com has lifted the access restrictions to allow off-campus access.  Kanopy has added films to its list of free films:  https://umw.kanopy.com/category/48061.  If you have questions about any particular resources, please let us know.

Like you, we have been trying our best to deal with the sudden switch to remote instruction.  I would love to hear from you what you think has worked well and what we can do better.

Take care,

Rosemary
